Question: After careful review, I do have to agree with the first indiviual who posted a question. All certfied motor carriers are subjected by federal law to have a valid motor carrier identification number, along with a valid USDOT number. With these credentials listed one can view upto date insurance fillings, safety ratings, and safety compliance. These laws govern the transportation industry in order to assure public safety. One may have a valid USDOT number, but may not have the proper credentials for interstae commerce. Both will be needed in order to apply for overwidth permits. I am quite sure that you would not like to see your property sitting inside of an impound yard because you trusted someones word. You may look up any motor carrier for yourself and view their credentials online. Thank you. (11/11/2009)
