Hi Alan,
I think your quote is a great deal, and you have good reviews (esp. w/ transporting animals) but I do have a few questions. Akai, our Shiba Inu would need to ride in a crate. We have a fairly large one now, but I know he will probably need to be in a smaller crate. Can you assure me that while driving, Akai will remain in his crate? It is more of a safety concern. I have heard some terrible stories of animals injured in car accidents and crate provide some protection.
Can you tell me more about how he will be cared for? How often do you stop for a walk?
Can you tell me more about what you mean when you state that you provide all labor on both ends? Do you pack? Do you provide boxes? Do you move the packed boxed onto and off of the truck.
This is my first long distance move and my first time hiring someone to do it! I just want to make sure I know what to expect.
Thanks,
Meagan
Hey guys: If a crate is a safer option for Akai then that is what we will do. You will have to provide the crate (I think some crates now are even seatbelt friendly - which is awesome). The front seat of the truck is pretty big (picture three people across) so a good sized crate for Akai's comfort is best. I can always test fit it before moving day just to make sure. DOG CARE - I like to stop about every 2 hours to stretch, walk a bit, grab a water, etc... Dogs in general are great traveling companions as they seem to enjoy the same schedule with their "potty-time". Dog will be fed on it's regular schedule with food you provide so there is no disruption to Akai's normal routine. LABOR - You guys pack up everything with your own supplies except for furniture which my crew and I blanket and shrinkwrap just before taking out of your place. Pack everything well as 2000 miles is a long and bumpy trip. I'll finish this in the question part as I've run out of allowable space.
Hi Alan,
I think I just have 2 more questions. Can you tell me if the insurance covers pets?
I am also wondering if you can bring the price down a bit? I noticed that similar listings have gone for about $1500 for a 1 bedroom apartment with similar miles of transport and then about $500 to transport Akai separately. I think $2,000 is fair - what are your thoughts.
Thanks,
Meagan
Hey guys: Sorry for the delay in responding - I had to check on the dog insurance question. I do NOT have an animal/livestock rider on my policy. My insurance covers property specifically. I'll reviewing/renewing my policy at the beginning of April anyway so I'll see if that is something available. I'm not very familiar with that breed, is Akai a valuable puppy or are talking personal value. Either way, it'll arrive safe, lol. Also, I saw there are seatbelt chest holders/harnesses available also that don't confine dogs to crates if that is something you might be interested in. PRICE QUESTION - I'm moving another Bostonian down to Austin the first weekend in March and they have just slightly less listed than you and are priced at $2300 with no animal. I don't think I can go all the way to $2000 but I can split the difference at $2200. I'll wait until this bid expires in a half day or so and just re-enter with the lower price. Hope this helps, Alan at Allstar Moving
