Pete is a boat restoration specialist, with over 40 years experience. Living in South Florida since the 1960's, attended U of M from 1979 to 1983, majoring in Accounting. Most of the boats that I restore are fiberglass construction, about half have balsa coring. Almost all boats have plywood transoms that usually need replacing. I prefer to recore transoms with Coosa expanded polyurethane. To save weight, I prefer Divinicell or Corecell for the floors and bulkheads. Material costs are so expensive, that I must search for special pricing. Every element of the restoration must be carefully purchased, otherwise the boat's cost will far exceed all buyer's ability to pay. I much prefer the styles of 1950s through 70s. Designs were simple then, speedboats had no berths or galleys. There was an entire generation of Americans raised with boating and fishing as a pastime. I long for a return to basics, boating should not being only to the rich.
