Dealing with Moving Stress

Simplify your to-do list

Most people are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things to do before a move. Finding a home, hiring a professional mover, and packing your house are just a few of the many items on a household moving checklist.

While some steps are necessary, you have the last say when it comes to your moving tasks. Don't want to hold a garage sale? Great! Donating your items will help you de-clutter your house and you know your items will go to people who really need them. There is no reason to wear yourself thin trying to get every little thing done. Know what's important, know what isn't, and let the rest go.

Ask for help

During a time of change, it is difficult to relinquish control. When it comes to household moving, however, the more help the better. If you're moving with your family, let everyone help. Your kids, even the youngest, take responsibility for packing their room. Collaborate with your spouse to divide responsibilities. Also, don't be afraid to look outside your household for help. Friends, family, and co-workers may be willing to help with the moving process

Organize!

To manage your stress, manage your move. Keep a moving file with your to-do list, receipts, and other important information. Create a calendar with your scheduled tasks. Don't do too much at once; allow yourself plenty of time to finish everything.
