I needed to move a 20ft intermodal container about 20-miles. Because I did not know the exact weight of the container with its contents, I guessed that my forklift would easily lift it onto a trailer. Not even close! My forklift couldn't budge the container.
Next, I went to the local rental yard and procured a boom truck with a 30-ton capacity, thinking that this will certainly do the trick. Fat chance! Not because the container weighed more than the capacity of the boom truck, but because the extended boom's capacity drops dramatically with each inch of extension so that when fully extended, it will barely pick up a 35-gallon trash can! I had to nearly empty the container in order to lift it with the boom truck. Even then, the container was at the maximum capacity of the boom and presented tremendous difficulty loading onto the trailer.
Once I got the container loaded and at the destination, much to my surprise, I was easily able to get the truck stuck in the mud up to the axles. My service provider came to the rescue by pulling me out with his rig and working diligently with me all day to finally get the container to the destination.
I have nothing but high regards for him and his willingness to stick with me until the job was done. He could have easily said: "I'm outta here." But instead, he saved the day. What started out as a mess turned into a great relief.
You can guess what kind of feedback this service provider received from me...
