"Shipping Furniture and a Family History "
shipping from Northport, New York to Evanston, Illinois for $350.00
I have been building and collecting antique reproduction furniture for over thirty years. I have found using eBay to be difficult, especially PayPal. Over the past year I have found a number of unique pieces on Craigslist. Normally the items would be small enough to be picked up and transported by UPS or FedEx along with any payments COD. This particular shipment was much larger and included 5 chairs and a dining room table and leaf. These were handmade pieces by the deceased Grandfather of a family who was downsizing. These pieces were made over time with love and care. The family heirlooms will continue to be respected and cherished by me and my family. But the question became how to get them 900 miles back to Illinois. I investigated a number of different scenarios including flying and or driving to New York and then driving back to Evanston, Illinois with the pieces. I ran across UShip on a Google search and read the feedback on the shipments they brokered. I was impressed enough to try uShip and was pleased with the bidding process. Since I was flexible with the pick-up time and delivery I had the opportunity to pick a bid that was lower than if I had to travel and pick-up the furniture myself. I ended up using and dealing with John Harvey of Iron Horse Expediters. He used the technology of text, email and cell phone to be in constant contact with me and the pick-up. He offered "White Glove Service" at the best price. I was and am still impressed with how simple and convenient the service through uShip was. I will certainly use both again.
