First I won an auction from a salvage vehicle website
I didn't see the fine print the vehicle had to be removed within 4 days.
So I called a tow company in Atlanta that quoted me a price to tow it to a repair shop.
When I called back they dodged my calls (I found out later that this particular tow company Was the cause of the original accident with the vehicle and was still bitter over it as they had to pay the previous owner for a new vehicle - sorry but that bitterness shouldn't stay on to a future owner = thats not a way to do a sucessful business)
So I scurried around to find another tow company
2 - calls to disconnected numbers
1 - call to a company that could do it in a week ( I needed it the following day)
1 - call to a tow company that was ready to go and get it; until they learned that it was a box truck; sorry its too big we can't do it.
my last option ( which should have been my first) was Uship
I have been part of the U-Ship Community for a few years and have had some intriguing if not interesting offers made to me; so I listed my
1996 GMC G - Series 3500 Cutaway Box Truck
and looked for shippers in the Atlanta area for the tow
I was quickly within an hour matched with ecmulljr who after I accepted called mein like 15 minutes
After explaining to him that I was in Rhode Island and needed the truck towed 30 miles through
the state of Georgia before he got paid, I was expecting him to laugh and hang up on me,
He didn't. he said "No Problem" and agreed to pick it up on time and deliver it on time.
The next day came and he called me early to let me know that he'd be there on time (I like that)
The next call 2 hours later (I was racing through my mind ; it's delivered or there is a problem)
There was a problem Verastar The Auto Placement center in Georgia that had posesion of the truck
would not release it to him; because another tow company was listed on the way-bill
(I originally told Verastar the name of the first company that quioted me a price; not knowing that they would be so childish about the tow)
I had to tell them that it was OK for ecmulljr to tow the vehicle.
If I was ecmulljr I would have driven away from Verastar and told me to find another tow company; I don't have time to play games with a blind tow from someone who is 1,000 miles away
having me tow a vehicle to a destination unknown.
I like the secure feeling of dealing with Verastar now; my first experience with their services.
ecmulljr had his driver waiting for confirmation; and the vehicle was released. and towed without a problem.
I received a call when the job was completed Very professional I would recommend ecmulljr to anyone who requires their services
I would definately use ecmulljr and Uship again
Update...................................
the frame has been welded
new windshield is being installed tomorrow (tuesday the 12th)
I will be travelling to Georgia to pick up the truck Thursday.....
A little about the damage to the vehicle;
Police report shows that it hit a parked Vehicle
I spoke with the original owner; it actually got clotheslined by a tow trucks cable
the tow truck (Company who gave first price quote) was pulling a vehicle out of a ditch and the van drove into the cable.
The tow truck driver was cited and made restitution to the original owner.
