College Moving Quotes
Once you have researched a few companies, now you need to get some quotes. When soliciting quotes for college moving, as with any type of moving, it is imperative that you get your quotes in writing. You should research your state-specific laws regarding moving estimates, but you must insist on a written estimate to ensure legal recourse, regardless of location. This is especially crucial when it comes to college moving, as a college student is more likely to be perceived as naïve with regards to moving, making a more inviting target to be taken advantage of.
If you are moving an entire household, most moving companies will send a representative out to your home to give you a free estimate. At this point, it will be important to understand the two types of estimates:
Non-Binding Estimates
Non-binding estimates approximate the cost of moving your goods based on weight and services, though the mover is not bound to this price, and the actual price of your move will probably be higher than the non-binding estimate. All moving companies are required to provide a non-binding estimate.
To ensure accuracy, be sure that everything you want moved is included in the estimate's description. A mover must inform you before acting on any additional services or costs not included in the original estimate.
Binding Estimates
A binding estimate is the best way to get a good price on your move. This estimate is made before the moving company weighs its truck, and the company must honor this estimate even if your load weighs more than the amount included in your estimate. If your load weighs less than the estimated amount, the company will issue you a refund.
