Is my car going to need me anymore? It's bizarre to think that with all the new smart technology we are seeing hit the marketplace that drivers might actually be taking a backseat, literally!
Engadget reports that the new VW Touran has automatic parking. "Volkswagen has announced that its upcoming Touran van will be the company's first vehicle to include ParkAssist. Utilizing ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear of the automobile, a control unit determines the available space and best suited trajectory to maneuver the vehicle into a parking spot," (Endgadget).
Okay, so maybe I am not going to be totally replaced, I still have to push the gas and brakes while it does the steering!
In China , there is an even more advanced car that people are trying out. If you want to give it a spin, you're going to put a few pedestrians at risk because no one is exactly sure if it's going to work or not. ("Driverless Car Invades China")
"The vehicle itself is an FAW Hongqi (Red Flag) HQ3 sedan equipped with two cameras to relay information to an onboard computer, which'll supposedly navigate its way down streets, make turns, and adapt to its environment," said Darren Murph on Engadget.
I guess I always figured I'd see the day that cars drove themselves – it used to be the stuff of the Jetsons and James Bond movies, pretty cool!
