The Transportation Price Index (TPI) fell 2.46% in February
to $2.38. It has risen 4.39% from $2.28 in February of last year. The boats category
showed the greatest movement this month, rising more than 10% to $0.52 ahead of the
summer boat season. The price of diesel fuel, which leveled off in January,
continued to fall in February, dropping 6.58% to $2.13/gallon. Diesel fuel
prices are now down more than 40% since February 2008.
The TPI uses proprietary information from actual
transactions taking place on the uShip.com site to provide aggregate and
categorical pricing figures expressed in US dollars per ton-mile. The TPI is
released on a monthly basis and was designed by uShip to track important data
related to transportation costs.
