December 2007. The largest movement occurred in the freight category, which
also showed a steep increase of nearly 25%, rising to $0.52. Diesel fuel prices
slowed their freefall but still dropped 11.49% to $2.31/gallon. Diesel fuel
prices have fallen more than 30% since December 2007.
The TPI uses proprietary information from actual transactions
taking place on the uShip.com site to provide aggregate and categorical pricing
figures expressed in US dollars per ton-mile. The TPI is released on a monthly
basis and was designed by uShip to track important data related to
transportation costs.
