The Transportation Price Index (TPI) showed a moderate drop
in November, falling 3.65% to $2.11. It has dropped 3.21% over the course of
the last year. Diesel fuel prices continued to plummet this month, dropping
nearly 20% to $2.61/gallon. This has clearly affected major categories
factoring into the TPI, most notably the freight category, which dropped 30% in
December.
The TPI uses proprietary information from actual transactions
taking place on the uShip.com site to provide aggregate and categorical pricing
figures expressed in US dollars per ton-mile. The TPI is released on a monthly
basis and was designed by uShip to track important data related to
transportation costs.
