The Transportation Price Index (TPI) dropped 9.5% in
October, settling at $2.19. It has risen only slightly from $2.18 in October of
last year. Diesel fuel prices plummeted this month, dropping 17.68% to $3.26/gallon.
Most major categories factoring into the TPI followed suit, with the boats
category showing the most significant drop, falling 17.39% to $0.57.
The TPI uses proprietary information from actual transactions
taking place on the uShip.com site to provide aggregate and categorical pricing
figures expressed in US dollars per ton-mile. The TPI is released on a monthly
basis and was designed by uShip to track important data related to
transportation costs.
